Today we got our first look at what the DC Council is proposing to change the proposed budget from Mayor Bowser. DC Public Schools portion is a part of the Committee of the Whole and their mark up session will be held at 3:30PM on June 25th. Can access it, plus the documents referenced here: https://lims.dccouncil.gov/Hearings/hearings/918 (DCPS Budget starts on PDF Page 40)

Hopefully Positive Changes
1) A reduction in money spent on standardized tests as well as a recommendation from the DC Council to reduce the days testing.
The Council credited the proposed changes to the testimonies of educators on DCPS over testing including cutting back on ANET, MAP and RCTs - so great job!
2) Money allocated for the Green Card program for H1B Visa Holders. Read more about their campaign that brought us to this point: https://www.eta4wtu.org/post/we-are-taking-action-to-support-international-educators-now

3) Elimination of DC Council funding the ELA ANET for HS and MAP Growth Assessments.

4) Restoring funding for 3 New Heights Coordinators at schools like GP-STAY
Still have a ways to go
The markup session will be held June 25th at 3:30 PM, so changes could be made (good or bad). We also have coalition partners who are fighting to support greater investments in Community Schools which has not been fulfilled yet. Then it still needs to get through final passage intact. So we will do our best to keep you up to date on what is going on. Let us know your thoughts!
