An updated membership list is crucial for the union to be able to-
consistently communicate with members
learn about challenges members face
organize for action when needed
We know we have struggled with an updated membership list because-
Building reps receive outdated lists in the fall, even though they have given more up to date lists the year before
Field rep has said they do not have updated lists of member groups they work with
Many members have reported not receiving the Morning Brew even after several attempts
There have been reports of members not being able to vote for the last contract because they didn’t receive the email
Educators Taking Action's Plan
WTU will train all building Reps and SCAC in list-building techniques and how union lists can be used through multiple modalities - on site coaching, virtual (live/asynchronous), training institutes and will build communication systems for building reps to share best practices.
Set clear targets and provide supports, coaching and resources to Building Reps to get each school list up to date within the first month of school.
The WTU will track data and participation and then support those schools that need assistance
Move our existing information into a single database, and train all Union Office staff in its full functionality and use (like NationBuilder)
Begin to build capabilities for Building Reps to have access to their members through the database so that we can centralize communication
If the feature is available - allow members access to their information on the database to update it when necessary themselves and control their data privacy and communication preferences
